About the Founder, Michelle Agostini
Michelle Agostini, the Owner/Founder of SilkBlume, has had a long and adventurous entrepreneurial journey that has led her to where SilkBlume is today. Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Michelle pursued a marketing business degree after completing school. At the age of 25, she started working with her father-in-law, helping people start their small businesses from home by supplying waste fabric from local manufacturers.
After her father-in-law passed away, Michelle decided to continue the business on her own, but soon realized that the fabric manufacturing industry in Cape Town was facing challenges. She then began exploring other avenues of business and discovered her passion for flowers. Michelle took online flower courses and registered SilkBlume in 2017, opting to work with silk flowers due to their lifelike appearance and the environmental benefits compared to fresh flowers.
While SilkBlume was still in the research and development stage, Michelle ran both businesses concurrently. However, in June 2019, she made the decision to close The Fabric Factory Shop and focus all her energies on creating silk flower arrangements and building the SilkBlume business to where it is today. Michelle’s entrepreneurial spirit, love for flowers, and commitment to environmental sustainability have been driving forces behind the success of SilkBlume.
